Anna B. Gempler-Ingwell

MONROE - Anna B. Gempler-Ingwell, age 86, of Monroe passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Harbor House Assisted Living in Monroe. She was born on November 7, 1924 in the Town of Avon, Rock County, Wisconsin to her parents Walter and Bertha (Luethy) Luethy. Anna graduated from New Glarus High School in 1942. On July 23, 1945 she was united in marriage to Leo Gempler. Later after Leo passed away on March 9, 1991 Anna married Marshall Ingwell on June 27, 1993. Anna worked as a waitress for thirty one years at the Casino in Monticello, as a clerk at Blum's store, the Monticello reporter for WEKZ radio, and St. Claire Hospital SPD. She was also an advisor at the M&M café, Red Cross Volunteer, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Anna was baptized at Zwingli UCC in Mt. Vernon and confirmed at the Swiss UCC in New Glarus. From a very early age it was recognized that Anna possessed great musical talent. When she was twelve a group of New Glarus area cheesemakers brought in an accordion from Switzerland for her perform with. Later she learned, performed, and recorded singing and yodeling with Rudi Burkhalter. She also yodeled, sang, and entertained with her family at many area festivals like Volksfest and Cheese Days. Anna was also a member of the cast for the first Wilhelm Tell Play in New Glarus and the Edelweiss Chalet Country Club.

Anna is survived by her son Bill (Juli) Gempler of Mukwonago, WI, daughter Linda (John) Goltz of Monroe, WI, a son-in-law Bill Escher of Lodi, WI, a sister Clara McGinnity of Mt. Horeb, sisters-in-law Audrey Luethy of Wilton, IA and Katherine Gempler-Phillipps of Monroe, WI, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and the loving family she gained with her marriage to Marshall Ingwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughters Barbara Escher, and Marjorie Katherine Gempler in infancy, husbands Leo Gempler in 1991 and Marshall Ingwell in 2001, a brother Walter E. Luethy Jr., brothers-in-law Tom McGinnity and Robert Doyle.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Zwingli United Church of Christ, 416 E. Lake Ave., Monticello, WI with Rev. Larry Balleine and Rev. Mary Gafner officiating with burial in Highland Cemetery, Monticello, WI.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Ave., New Glarus, WI and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at Zwingli UCC Church in Monticello.

A memorial fund has been established.
