Alvin Wilbert "Curly" Blumer, age 87 of Janesville, died on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Skaalen Home in Stoughton. He was born on July 18, 1921, in Mt. Pleasant Township, to Henry and Elizabeth (Rhyner) Blumer. He grew up in Albany and attended country school. Alvin and Miriam Davis were married on June 9, 1941 in Dubuque, Iowa, living in the Albany area.
Alvin fought in WWII from November 1942 to September of 1945. He saw action in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. Alvin worked in a condensary, farmed, drove truck for Texaco for 14 years, drove school bus for 14 years and worked at GM in Janesville for 20 years until retiring while farming.
Alvin thoroughly enjoyed playing cards, visiting casinos and spending time with his great-grandson Devin.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam of Janesville; children, Sharon Folk of Apache Junction, AZ, Donald Blumer of Fort Atkinson, Marla Gilbertson of Janesville, Rick (Val) Blumer of Albany; 11 grandchildren, Pam (Brad) Johnson, Jill (Ryan) Engelbrecht, Carmen (Al) Carothers, Lori (Bob) Sobon, Jim (Debbie) Blumer, Mike Blumer, Nick Gilbertson, Justin Gilbertson, Brooke (Adam) Cole, Tiffany (Bryce) Broughton and Nik Blumer; 12 great-grandchildren: Alex, Ben, Eric, Gavin, Chase, Trey, Derek, Katrina, Lyndsie, Catie, Scott and Devin; a sister-in-law, Nancy Blumer of Brodhead; 5 nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his parents; 2 brothers, John and Roy Blumer; great-grandson, Donald Sobon.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, 1455 Mansion Drive and 18th Avenue in Monroe, WI. Officiating will be Rev. William McIntyre, with burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Albany.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
