Alvin F. Moritz, age 92 of Monroe, died peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2008 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe.
Alvin was born of Swiss parentage in the Town of Washington, Green County, on April 4, 1916, the son of Albert and Rose (Buehler) Moritz. He graduated as class Valedictorian from Monticello High School and earned a bachelors degree in Accounting from the University of Wisconsin in 1938.
Alvin and Lucille Weissmiller were united in marriage on December 21, 1937 in Rockford, IL.
Alvin served in with the U.S. Navy during World War II and following his honorable discharge he and Lucille settled in Monroe where Alvin established his own accounting firm. He subsequently was employed by Wisconsin Blue Cross and Swedish American Hospital in Rockford before he retired.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Monroe where he served on the church council and was a church treasurer. He also was a member of the Monroe Kiwanis Club, Roosevelt School Board , Monroe City Band, and Rockford Mens Garden Club. Throughout his life, Alvin was an avid gardener and took pride in being an early practitioner of organic gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Monroe; two sons, Fredric (Christi) Moritz of Woodstock, IL, and Jon (Jane) Moritz of Mazomanie, WI; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Delbert Moritz; and a sister, Ruth Smith.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., at the St. Clare Friedensheim Chapel. A Memorial Fund will be established in Alvin's name.
