Alice M. Nickels, age 79, of Monroe, died on Monday, April 20, 2015 at the UW Hospital in Madison. She was born on August 3, 1935 in Aurora, IL, the daughter of Carl and Irene (Powers) Berquist and graduated from St. Charles Catholic School.
Alice was a CNA at the Monroe Manor, retiring in 2001.
She was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victors Catholic Church and the Red Haters Club. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, helping others and spending time with family.
She is survived by her children: Marie (Andrew) Swedlund of Monroe; Betty Nickels of Juda; Clare (Rocky) Swedlund of Juda; Helen Nickels of Monroe; Anthony (Cheryl) Nickels of Orfordville; Leonard (Diana) Nickels of Brodhead; Joseph (Melissa) Nickels of Argyle; brothers, Carl (Sharon) Berquist of Beaufort, SC; Norman (Diane) Berquist of Elburn, IL; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents; son, Robert Nickels, in infancy; and brother, Albert (Joan) Berquist.
A Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victors Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 23rd, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr., and N. 18th Avenue in Monroe.
