Ontario, Wis., man saved after rollover outside of Shullsburg

MONROE — An Ontario man was charged with his 12th operating while intoxicating charge, following a one-car crash in Shullsburg Township in which the driver was flown to the hospital by medical helicopter.

According to police reports, deputies responded to State Highway 11, in Shullsburg Township for a one vehicle rollover just before 1:20 a.m. 

The driver, Peter J Fagan, 49, Ontario was traveling on the highway when he apparently lost control of his vehicle, “causing the vehicle to exit the roadway, enter a ditch and roll over several times,” reports said.

Fagan’s 2002 Ford was severely damaged and was towed from the scene of the crash, according to police.

The victim was initially transported by Shullsburg EMS crews to Lafayette County Memorial Hospital; and later taken by helicopter to UW Madison for life-threatening injuries. 

Shullsburg EMS, Shullsburg Fire and UW Madison Med Flight assisted in the response. Fagan’s condition was not immediately available.

Fagan was cited for Failure to Maintain Control and Operating while Intoxicated, his 12th such offense, will be referred to the district attorney for prosecution. According to Wisconsin Court Records, Fagan was last charged with OWI in Lafayette County in 2012, his fourth such arrest. A fourth OWI is considered an automatic felony charge in the state.
