Misdemeanors
● Steven William West, 28, Juda, pleaded no contest March 13 to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct with use of a dangerous weapon. He entered an 18-month deferred prosecution agreement with conditions that he take a Concealed Carry Class and attend quarterly review hearings. The case will be fully dismissed if he complies. Related charges including carrying a concealed weapon and intentionally pointing a firearm at a person were dismissed as part of the agreement. The case stems from a “street altercation” in downtown Monroe shortly after midnight in the early morning hours of Sept. 27, according to Monroe police. Officers located a handgun in West’s vehicle, and witnesses reported he had pointed it at several people. West told police he had pointed the gun in fear for his life, but police didn’t find evidence that West was acting in self-defense. The gun was not discharged.

The criminal complaint indicates he stole an Xbox 360, Xbox games and 500 to 700 Yu-Gi-Oh cards from a friend in Brodhead who let Weigelt stay with him in April 2018. Weigelt then sold some of the items at a Gamestop in Beloit. The total value of the stolen items was $646.46. In a letter to Judge Thomas Vale in March 2019, Weigelt wrote that he was accepting responsibility for his actions. He explained that he was battling a serious opioid addiction as well as homelessness “due to my irresponsible and bad choices from this addiction.”

An investigation linked Hayes to retail thefts on July 4 and July 13 at the Monroe Walmart.
Felonies
● Coy M. Eldred, 43, Brodhead, was charged March 25 with one Class B felony count of first-degree child sexual assault involving contact with a child younger than 13. The criminal complaint indicates he made sexual comments to and sexually touched a 12-year-old girl between July and September. The girl’s mother reported it to authorities after she noticed a change in her daughter’s behavior. During a forensic interview, the girl said Eldred’s comments, such as telling her he felt “like a 14-year-old in an old man’s body,” was “attracted to younger women” and had thoughts of her coming into his bedroom naked, made her worried and made her “shake” in fear. She said he told her not to tell anyone about their conversations or about an incident of him touching her. When interviewed by police, Eldred denied the allegations and said he considered the girl to be like a daughter to him and he would never touch her or his children that way. His initial appearance is June 22.

During a Dec. 11 traffic stop for speeding in the 400 block of 22nd Avenue, a Monroe police officer reported being “overcome with a strong odor of fresh marijuana” coming from Breisath’s Plymouth Neon and seized nearly eight ounces during a search of the car. Breisath’s initial appearance is June 22.
