Felonies

●  Dustin W. Smith, 33, Monroe, pleaded no contest Sept. 10 to misdemeanor charges of possessing a controlled substance, possessing drug paraphernalia and resisting or obstructing an officer. He was sentenced to two years on probation, with conditions that he remain clean and sober, maintain full-time schooling or employment and undergo recommended treatment and counseling. A felony charge of delivering heroin was dismissed but “read in,” meaning the judge could consider it at sentencing. Other felony charges, including maintaining a drug-trafficking place and bail jumping, were dismissed as part of the plea deal. The charges were the result of a longterm heroin-trafficking investigation by area drug agents. A search warrant on Smith’s house in the 1200 block of 23rd Street in December 2017 turned up heroin, paraphernalia and Suboxone, a prescription medication for opiate withdrawal that has a high risk for addiction. Court records indicate that when police went to arrest Smith at the local business where he was working, he fled on foot but was later apprehended nearby in the 200 block of 4th Avenue.

●  Michael B. Bowling, 22, Monroe, pleaded no contest Oct. 3 to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct, with misdemeanor battery and a felony charge of strangulation and suffocation dismissed. He was fined and owes the court $505. The case stems from a domestic dispute with another man in the 1300 block of 15th Avenue in Monroe on Sept. 10, 2017.

●  Aidan Joseph Roesslein, 17, Freeport, pleaded guilty Oct. 4 to a misdemeanor charge of contributing to truancy, downgraded from a felony charge of interfering with child custody. A charge of felony bail jumping was dismissed as part of a plea deal. He was sentenced to four days in jail and owes the court $443. Court records indicate he took a 15-year-old girl away from parental custody, knowing she was a runaway. Police apprehended the couple in a grocery store parking lot in Monroe on May 4.

●  Jacob Michael Wilson, 23, Brodhead, was charged Nov. 20 with a Class H felony count of taking and driving a vehicle without consent, as a party to a crime. His initial appearance is Dec. 17. The case stems from an investigation into a single-vehicle rollover accident reported at 2:16 a.m. Oct. 30, 2017 in the W4300 block of Montgomery Road, Town of Jefferson. Wilson initially told deputies he had been drinking and was passed out in the backseat at the time of the rollover, according to court documents.

●  Brian Allan Ingle, 30, Green County Jail, was charged Nov. 21 with a Class H felony count of committing battery as a prisoner. He signed a $100 cash bond and a $900 signature bond in the case, which stems from an incident Nov. 16 at the jail. Court records indicate the victim “had blood on his shirt and pants and was bleeding from the nose and mouth.” The victim reported that Ingle and another inmate were talking about a child molester and the victim told them to keep him out of it, but the “next thing I know I’m getting beat up.”

●  Lisa Marie Valentin, 44, Monroe, entered a two-year deferred prosecution agreement Sept. 25 on a Class I felony count of substantial battery and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, with conditions that she comply with any recommended counseling and attend quarterly monitoring conferences. The case will be dismissed if she complies with the agreement. The charges stem from a physical altercation Aug. 6 at a Monroe residence. Valentin told police she armed herself with a knife in self-defense against a man and that the stabbing was accidental.

●  Collin James Northrup, 24, Cottage Grove, pleaded guilty Oct. 9 to two Class B misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, with previously filed felony charges of battery to a law enforcement officer dismissed. He was sentenced to 18 months on probation. He owes the court $352. The charges stem from a May 26 traffic stop on East Main Street in Albany. Court records indicate he was “very loud and boisterous,” swore and made threats at police and was “highly agitated and demanding” at the jail.

●  Kevin Richard Hoffman, 27, Madison, pleaded guilty Oct. 26 to felony bail jumping and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer and was sentenced to one year on probation, to be served concurrently with sentences in Dane County for convictions including forgery. Conditions of his probation include alcohol and drug treatment. The case stems from a warrant arrest March 10 on County H in New Glarus, after police responded to a report of a disabled vehicle.
