City talks clerk/treasurer pay raise
park and vote
Monroe City Clerk/Treasurer Brittney Rindy stands by the new “Park & Vote” option for voters and those looking to request absentee ballots.

MONROE — The Monroe Common Council has been listening to recommendations to increase the City of Monroe Clerk/Treasurer Brittney Rindy’s salary range.

The suggestion was brought up by alderwoman Kelly Hermanson at the Sept. 14 Salary and Personnel Committee meeting.

Previously, the roles of City Clerk and Treasurer were separate positions. Before the hiring of the current City Clerk/Treasurer, the roles were combined.

When the positions were separate, the city clerk salary range was $43,462-$58,802. The treasurer salary range was $40,240-$54,486. The current clerk/treasurer salary range, while doing the work of both 40-hours-per-week positions, is $45,760-$61,906.

Hermanson recommended that the 2021 budget clerk/treasurer salary move to the range of $62,776-$84,966. The range is 75% of the combined salary ranges for both the clerk and treasurer positions. The recommendation continued on to the Finance and Taxation Committee and Bauman Associates to be considered for the 2021 budget.

The new clerk/treasurer position covers all but three of the duties and responsibilities done by both the previous city clerk position and the previous city treasurer position.

“The fact that the clerk/treasurer is getting all of this work done in less than 80 hours is a benefit to the city,” Hermanson said at the Sept. 14 meeting.

Rose Adams of Bauman Associates attended the meeting to discuss the city’s budget and how the salary change could impact that. The proposed wage for the City of Monroe Clerk/Treasurer for 2021 is $66,373, Adams said.

The proposal will be discussed at the next Finance and Taxation Committee meeting when the entire 2021 budget is reviewed in more detail.

Rindy started the position in July 2019.
