MONROE - Police are investigating a rash of car vandalism incidents in the city earlier this week.
They received more than a dozen reports of vandalism Monday and Tuesday.
"Most of the vandalism was to vehicles' side view mirrors," Police Chief Fred Kelley said Wednesday.
The damages are similar in nature, "as if someone just came along and hit them as they went by," Kelley said.
The damaged vehicles were parked on the streets.
Not all of the vandalism incidents involved vehicles, but Kelley said the city did see a rash of vehicular damage reported during the 24-hour period.
The vandalism incidents occurred throughout the city, in a "shotgun pattern," but mostly in the residential areas on the south side of the city, Kelley said.
Officers are not certain if the incidents are the result of one person or group, or if a "copy cat" situation occurred.
The recent vandalism reports to the police department started at about 5 a.m. Monday and continued throughout the day and into the early morning hours until 4 a.m. Tuesday.
One cluster of reported incidents is located between Monroe Middle School and Recreation Park, and another cluster is located between the Monroe County Club and 14th Avenue.
Other scattered incidents occurred on the city's north and far north side, east of 18th Avenue.
