MONROE - At a meeting Monday, Aug. 6, the City of Monroe Board of Public Works:
- Approved bills from Whitney Tree Service for $4,490 for tree trimming and removal, including 16 hours of work from the July 24 storm; Iverson Construction for $155,800 for the Lake Drive project; H. James and Sons for $82,500 for 21st Street detention pond; E&N Hughes for $37,850 for Lake Drive project; Veolia Environmental Services $1,640 for June recycling; Town and County Engineering for $415, $15,000 and $3,300 for Lake Drive project; Fehr-Graham and Associates for $780 for 8th Street underground storage tank; and Arnold and O'Sheridan for $2,190 for parking ramp inspection.
- Received a written updates from AECOM regarding the wastewater treatment plant facility upgrades. An AECOM representative will attend the meeting Monday, Aug. 20 with more information.
- Reviewed proposals and recommended to the council to hire Ramaker and Associates at $4,000 to conduct a structural assessment of the municipal swimming pool.
- Took no action on a second contract extension with Iverson Construction, LLC for the Lake Drive project.
- Discussed Wisconsin Southern Railroad Company intentions to improve the railroad crossing on Wisconsin 69.
- Discussed complaints regarding alleged odors coming from Veolia Transfer Station on the city's west side and reviewed staff's process for documenting and handling complaints.
- Heard from Tyler Schultz concerning signs to direct vehicles to more available parking downtown; weeds along streets; and slowing release of pool water to prevent erosion.

MONROE - At a meeting Monday, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:
- Discussed and recommend to council to approve Southern Wisconsin Northern Illinois Fire Rescue Association Monroe Fire School Friday, Aug. 17 through Sunday, Aug. 19.
- Discussed bicycle use, mostly by children, on the sidewalks in the downtown square area, which is prohibited by city code. Multiple suggestions were gathered on how to inform the public of the code.
- Discussed traffic and pedestrian safety in the 400 block of 22nd Avenue, near Monroe Clinic. The city is repainting the crosswalks. Monroe Clinic and the Monroe Police Department will return with more recommendations at a later meeting.
Chairman Boyce was absent.

- Voted 3-1 to approve a request from Police Chief Fred Kelley to replace an entry-level police officer position.
- Met in closed session to discuss the qualifications of candidates for Director of Water and Wastewater position along with compensation recommendations.
