MONROE - The Monroe Water Utility has been flushing hydrants on the south and southeast portions of the city due to concerns of discolored water raised by residents in that area, according to Mike Kennison, City of Monroe Water Utility Supervisor.
All routine monthly water samples required by the Department of Natural Resources came back safe.
At this time, the utility believes the discoloration was discharged into the system when Well No. 6 was rehabilitated and placed back in service. To resolve the issue, Well No. 6 was taken off-line and pumped to waste until discoloration was no longer visible. Another well sample was taken to ensure that the water continued to test safe for consumption.
Residents are asked to contact the water utility at 329-2480 if any discoloration is noticed in the future.
