MONROE — After three years with the city, City Clerk Arianna Voegeli plans to soon move up in the echelons of government.

First hired as an administrative secretary, serving mainly the building inspection department, Voegeli was chosen by aldermen as city clerk in February 2018. She will have served the city for three years upon her departure.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here with the city, I’ve learned a lot in my three years here,” Voegeli said. “I’m taking away a lot of invaluable knowledge and skills, and I’m really going to miss working with the staff and council here.”

Her final day is April 26. On April 29, she will begin as deputy county clerk for Green County. County Clerk Mike Doyle approached Voegeli about possibly filling the new role. After talking with her family and considering the change a positive one, Voegeli said she accepted the offer.

“My family is very excited,” Voegeli said. “I’m expecting to have a lot more time at home in the evening with the new position.”

With a baby due to arrive in July, Voegeli said the added free time in the evenings was another benefit when she considered accepting the position.

Assistant City Administrator Sam Liebert said during a Monroe Common Council meeting April 16 that Voegeli performs tasks with ease and congratulated her on the new position.

Liebert said he was unsurprised she was advancing to another level of government and wished her well, noting he would miss working with her at City Hall.

Voegeli will be fulfilling a multitude of duties similar to those she has performed while city clerk. As deputy county clerk, she will assist with Green County Board of Supervisors meetings, prepare meeting minutes and gather elections supplies as well as aid with elections when they take place.

A combination baby shower and going away party took place in the Parks and Recreation Department of City Hall on Monday. Voegeli said there are a number of city staff members she will miss, but the new prospect just a block away from her office in City Hall was too appealing to refuse.

“I’m sad to be leaving the city, but excited for a new adventure and new opportunities,” Voegeli said.
