Children's Parade will help kick off Cheese Days Friday

MONROE - "Herd Cheese Days is so Cool," is the theme for the Children's Cheese Day Parade.

The Monroe parks and Recreation Department is asking all individuals, youth and adult, and groups participating in the parade to wear sunglasses with their costume or T-shirt for the "Cool Look."

The Children's Parade will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17. Anyone wishing to participate in the parade should meet at the north side of Monroe Middle School between 5 and 5:15 p.m.

The parade will go around two sides of the Square and past Stop-N-Go. Children of all ages may participate in the parade. Children under 8 years old years old must have an adult walk with them in the parade.

No registration is required for individuals walking in the parade.

For this year's parade, the children are encouraged to dress up in any one of the following categories: Swiss Costume, Children's Cheese Day T-shirt "Herd Cheese Days is Cool," Cheesehead, Campion Champion T- shirts, or a costume of their choice.

Groups only should register with Marge Klinzing at (608) 325-2465.

Groups can register anytime until day of the parade.

The lineup for the parade is as follows: fire truck, Cheese Day Prince and Princess, Dave and Donna Brown family float, Cheese Day Prince and Princess contestants, children in Swiss costumes, middle school marching band, Children's Cheese Day T-shirts, pugs/dogs on parade, Pizza Hut, Rainbow Childcare, Studio M Dancers, St. Victor's, Ding-a-Dong, Girls Scouts, Monroe Preschool, Ronin Karate, 4-H Groups, Swiss Colony and Chris Mouse, Monroe Public Library, Green County Family YMCA Preschool, costume of choice, Emergency Medical Services, Stateline Home Schoolers, children on bikes-motorized vehicles-horses-roller blades, Subway, Monroe Bible Church, Behr Green County Salvage, YMCA Blaze Football, Monsignor Campion Champions including MMS Volleyball & Cross Country and Monroe Police Department. This is subject to change as additional groups register.

Anyone interested in purchasing a Cheese Day T-shirt to wear in the parade may purchase them at the Monroe Parks & Recreation office, Cheese Days office, Kidz Kloset, Schultz Pharmacy, Heartland Graphics and Cheese Day Retail Tent.

The shirts will be available in tan with Brown Swiss cows and black with Holstein cows. The shirts are being sold for $10 for children sizes starting at youth 6-8 and $12 for adult sizes for children and $15 for adult XXL and XXXL.
