MONROE - Cheese Days organizers have added more activities to help attract children to this year's festival.

"I'm pleased that we have been able to add so many free, fun opportunities for kids," said Noreen Rueckert Cheese Days coordinator.

When kids gather downtown this year, they will have a wide variety of activities from which to choose.

The Monroe Theatre Guild (MTG) will provide activities Friday and Saturday at the MTG building, located at 910 16th Ave.

Beginning Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m., kids can visit the MTG "Art and Imagination Station." They can make a craft project; dress up in the costume dress-up area; sculpt and paint; as well as visit the sock puppet area, the puppet stage and see professional glass-blowing demonstrations.

The children's activities at the MTG building continue from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

In addition, the MTG building will be open for people who need a place to rest and relax for a while. People can come inside the building Friday, Saturday and Sunday to rest, use the baby-changing area and enjoy some snacks and drinks.

On Saturday, in front of the Monroe Public Library, a kiddie pedal tractor pull will be held from 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The free event, which awards prizes, is for children ages 3 to 10.

Also in front of the library will be a bouncy house, bouncy bungee run, games and demonstrations along with a Cave of the Mounds mobile gemstone mine from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Comedy juggler and unicyclist T.J. Howell will perform in front of the library at 2:30 p.m.

Inside the library, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., kids can take part in "Cheesy Stories and Cheesy Crafts."

The "Family Farm Adventure Tent" will be open throughout the weekend. Kids can see how they measure up to cows and other farm animals; learn what cows eat and drink; take part in a pedal tractor riding course and get a milk mustache.

The tent is open from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The tent is closed during the parade.

Other events for children include:

• The children's parade, which begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Monroe Middle School.

• The children's Swiss Talent Show at 6 p.m. Friday at the main stage, south of the Green County Courthouse.

• A carnival, located south of the Courthouse. The carnival is open from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
