MONROE — A theft suspect wanted by Brodhead police for running from officers last summer is now in custody and facing felony charges in Green and Rock counties.
Juwaun Antwaun Carter, 17, was charged earlier in November in Green County with burglary, theft, criminal damage to property, two counts of taking and driving a vehicle without consent, possessing THC and drug paraphernalia and three counts of resisting an officer.
He is currently jailed on a cash bond in Rock County for charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, eluding an officer and two counts of taking and driving a vehicle without consent. Court records show home addresses in Janesville and Beloit for Carter.
The Green County charges stem in part from a July 22 burglary on Red Cedar Lane in Brodhead during which a window was broken and an ATV stolen, according to court records.
Brodhead Chief of Police Chris Hughes reported on the night of the theft that Carter ran from officers and officers lost sight of him in the area of Red Cedar Lane and Conifer Court on the southern edge of the city.
The pursuit of Carter began earlier that night with a report from a Stop-N-Go employee of drug activity and suspicious vehicles parked at the convenience store on 1st Center Avenue in Brodhead. Police determined one of the vehicles was stolen out of Beloit.
Carter was on probation at the time for a criminal traffic conviction of resisting police by failing to stop, stemming from an incident on his 16th birthday last year in Rock County. A separate felony charge of fleeing an officer in January was dismissed but “read in” into his sentence.
