ALBANY - Rain or shine, the Lake Winnetka/Sugar River Improvement Association Inc. will hold its annual Carp Fishing Contest from Friday, Aug. 31 through Monday, Sept. 3.

There will be $50 first prizes for the most carp caught and another for the largest carp caught. Second through fifth place prizes will consist of cash or merchandise and will be awarded to the remaining four contestants with the most carp caught, regardless of size.

No registration is required to compete in the contest, but participants must have a valid Wisconsin-fishing license.

Qualifying carp must be caught from the Sugar River in Albany or on the millpond (Lake Winnetka) upstream of the Albany Dam.

The goal of the contest is to provide a fun way to help game fish proliferate more abundantly by removing as many carp as possible.

Participants may start fishing any time on Friday, Aug. 31 and may fish all weekend. The contest ends at 1 p.m. Monday Sept. 3. Prizes will be awarded in the park by the Albany boat ramp.
