TOWN OF ADAMS — A Browntown man with six drunken driving convictions on his record was arrested again for the same offense midday Thursday, Nov. 21, according to the Green County Sheriff's Office.

Carmen F. Ott, 66, was jailed pending court on the seventh-offense charge of operating while intoxicated, a Class F felony punishable by a minimum of three years and up to 12.5 years in prison.

Deputies found Ott at about 11:45 a.m. stranded in the N5800 block of Biggs Road, Town of Adams. He had been southbound when his vehicle hit a tree limb in the road.

Ott reported no injuries. The vehicle was towed with disabling damage. Ott was also cited for driving with a revoked license, no vehicle insurance and a false display of vehicle registration.

Ott nearly died from a crash six years ago near New Glarus that also injured the other driver and her 1-year-old son and resulted in Ott's 6th OWI conviction. Ott crossed the centerline into the path of the oncoming vehicle.

At his sentencing hearing in May 2015 for the 6th offense OWI, Ott told the judge the crash shattered his hip and a rib, punctured his lung, busted his nose and bent a rod in his leg from a prior motorcycle accident. He had to learn to walk again.

Ott said he "died twice on the way to the hospital" in a medical helicopter.

"If that's not a reason not to drink again, I don't know what is," he told the judge.

Judge Thomas Vale sentenced him to 18 months in prison and three years on extended supervision, which Ott completed within the past few months.
