MONROE - Midwest Catalog Brands Inc., a subsidiary of The Swiss Colony Inc. has acquired assets from Direct Marketing Services Inc., including Montgomery Ward.
Montgomery Ward was America's first mail order catalog business. Aaron Montgomery Ward founded it in 1872.
Montgomery Ward closed its catalog and retail operations in 2001.
"The purchase of Montgomery Ward ... is very exciting," said John Baumann, president of Swiss Colony. "We're hopeful that we can breath new life into what was once an American retail icon."
