DARLINGTON - The City of Darlington Police Department is hosting its 15th Annual Police Brat Feed and Ball Game on Thursday, Aug. 9, at Riverside Park (behind Piggly Wiggly).

Officers will be serving up brats, hotdogs, chips and beverages beginning at 5 p.m., until sold out.

At 7 p.m., law enforcement officers from the local, county and state level will play together as "The Enforcers" softball team against "The Community All-Stars," a team of Darlington business representatives and community members.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Darlington Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program. The D.A.R.E. program is taught in the first and third grades at Holy Rosary Catholic School and in the fifth grade at Darlington Elementary-Middle School, with followup presentations in the seventh and eighth grades and the "Role Model" program in high school.

D.A.R.E. aims to heighten relations between police and youth and reduce the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs and violent behavior in young people.
