MONROE - Monroe High School's new principal will be Rick Waski, the current principal at Marshall High School.

The school board approved offering Waski the job Monday.

Waski has accepted the position, Superintendent Larry Brown said. Waski's contract will begin July 1.

He replaces Mark Burandt, who announced his resignation in February.

Waski and six other candidates interviewed with an advisory committee March 30, Brown said. He was the only finalist selected to be interviewed by the school board. That interview was April 13.

"He was everyone's No. 1 choice," Brown said.

Marshall is located northeast of Madison in Dane County. The high school has 380 students, according to its Web site.

Prior to working in Marshall, Waski was the associate principal at Northland Pines in Eagle River and was a teacher in Seymour, Brown said.

Last week, Burandt was identified as one of two finalists for the position of superintendent for the Juda school district. The Juda school board is expected to make a decision on that position by May 14.
