MONROE - The Monroe Arts Center will hold open auditions for children ages 5 to 18 for a role in the upcoming musical production of "Gloria, The Christmas Angel."

Singing, non-singing and dancing roles will be cast. Auditions will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7 and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8 at MAC, 1315 11th St.

The story of "Gloria, The Christmas Angel" is about a "not-so-perfect" angel. Gloria is a klutzy young angel with tangled hair, a bent halo and wings that are out of shape. Feeling unfit and forgotten, she finds a power from deep within to believe in herself when no one does. Because she can see beyond outward appearances, Gloria gives courage to those who seem prone to failure, reminding everyone that the world is full of imperfect creatures.

Judy Knudtson will director "Gloria, The Christmas Angel." Joining Knudtson on the "Gloria" production team are Cindy Blanc, musical director; Kathryn Zastrow, choreographer; and Kathy King, set designer.

Children must come prepared to recite their favorite nursery rhyme or poem and sing sixteen bars of their favorite song or "Happy Birthday." Those interested in dancing roles only, are not required to recite or sing at the auditions. A non-returnable photo is required along with the audition form. Two adult roles are available for one male and one female, who will be cast as "Grandpa" and "Grandma." Adults will be asked to read from the script. Scripts and music for the production are available and may be checked out through the Monroe Arts Center office.

"Gloria, The Christmas Angel" performance dates will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 and 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 at MAC.

Audition forms, cast list, rehearsal schedule and audition details are available at MAC, online at www.monroeartscenter.com or by calling (608) 325-5700.
