MONROE — Local state representatives were in town last week to get a look at the remodel of the Green County Child Advocacy Center.
Representatives Todd Novak (R-Dodgeville), Clint Anderson (D-Beloit) and Mike Bare (D-Verona) came to Monroe. Currently, the Green County Child Advocacy Center is remodeling its current facility and adding onto the building to expand its resources.
The Green County Child Advocacy Center (CAC), located in Monroe, is a supportive and safe place for children who may have been abused or have witnessed an act of violence. A team of professionals who are specially trained in investigating and evaluating abuse and neglect cases and helping children and their families is brought together at the Green County CAC
The Green County CAC uses a multidisciplinary response which allows for service providers within the Green County CAC and professionals on the multidisciplinary team to assess for appropriate referral needs, effectively respond to the victims they serve, assist in stabilizing the lives of children and families, and respond to the emotional, psychological and physical needs following victimization.
“The great team of staff at CAC is a supportive and safe place for children who may have been abused or have witnessed an act of violence,” Novak said. “It was great to talk with Stephanie King (Green County CAC Coordinator) and Dan Williams (Green County Service Director) about the work they are doing with the building and their work with the contractors. I look forward to seeing the new building in the spring of 2024.”
The Green County Child Advocacy Center is unique as it is the only government service attached CAC in Wisconsin and it is staffed by social workers and a therapist with the Children, Youth, and Families Unit of Green County Human Services. Our program is funded primarily through the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) and the Children’s Justice Act (CJA).
The Green County Child Advocacy Center has linkage agreements with the Sexual Assault Recovery Program (SARP) and Green Haven Family Advocates, however individuals referred to Green County CAC have the right to decline advocacy services or work with an advocacy organization they are already established with. Advocacy services are available in both Spanish and English.
The Green County CAC is located at 2809 6th Street on the city’s far northeast side.
The Green County CAC appreciates the support of the community and the generosity of individuals who want to improve the lives of the children and families we serve. Donation questions can be directed to King at 608-328-9384. Follow the Green County CAC Facebook page for current program needs.
Additionally, the trio of Assemblymen toured the Green County Sheriff’s Department and Jail.
“We had a productive conversation on the facility’s current state and goals for the upcoming year,” Novak said. “Thank you to Sheriff Jeff Skatrud and Lieutenant Curtis Quinn for taking us on a tour of the Sheriff’s Department.”
