MONROE - Mark Coplien has officially resigned from the Brodhead City Council after accepting a job in Crystal Lake, Ill.

Coplien was running for mayor of Brodhead as well, but has withdrawn from the race. City Clerk Rosann Meixelsperger said there was an issue concerning alderperson compliance to attendance policy, which required council members to attend at least 75 percent of the meetings, committees and boards they were on.

There will not be a hearing at the Feb. 10 council meeting concerning Coplien.

"We did have an attendance issue, but I do not know whether he will appear at the meeting or not," Meixelsperger said.
