This past week was busy for the contractors as concrete crews completed the majority of the curb and gutter on the north side of the 8th Street project in Monroe.
Roadway crews finished replacing the old road base with stone and began grading the north side for new sidewalk. Electrical crews installed traffic signal bases and ran underground conduit for the decorative light poles. The box culvert extension in Honey Creek was backfilled while a lining crew cleaned the culvert under Ruda Chevrolet in preparation for the culvert restoration.
Crews will focus mainly on completing the concrete work, including curb and gutter, and driveways this week. Road crews will continue to place stone for the sidewalk and will start preparing the surfaces for paving.
Electricians will pull new wire to the light pole bases and begin delivering the new traffic signal equipment. Crews will remove and replace the approaches on the 6th Avenue West bridge over State Highway 11 in preparation for paving. The inside lanes of 6th Avenue West will be closed to complete these approaches. The outside lanes will remain open to allow traffic to cross the bridge.
The project should be nearing completion within the next month, so expect more construction traffic in the area. There will be changes in traffic control over the next couple of weeks. Contractors ask that drives continue to drive safely through the project.
Those with questions or concerns about the project, please feel free to contact Ken Plowman or myself.
