This is one of the last milk wagons that served Monticello homes. 

The farm and dairy were owned by Ira and Frank Pierce. “Dickie” the horse was employed to pull the delivery cart. Milk was 3 to 5 cents a quart, delivered to a customer’s door at that time. The photo date is uncertain but notes on the back list it as between 1902 and 1912. 

The Pierce farm was on the hill at the south end of South Main Street in Monticello. Additional interesting photos can be viewed at Monticellohistoricalsociety.org in the slideshows section.
