ADVERTISEMENT FOR COST ESTIMATES Village of New Glarus Green County, Wisconsin

Rehabilitation work at the Chalet of the Golden Fleece Museum

The Village of New Glarus is requesting cost estimates for a number of rehabilitation and repair work at the Chalet of the Golden Fleece Museum located at 618 2nd Street. The Friends of the Chalet of Golden Fleece will utilize the cost estimates to assist in writing grants for the cost of repair/replacement of various exterior items. Cost estimates are requested for the following projects:  Foundation drainage/water proofing system  Timber ends and bracket repairs  Balcony deck repair  Porches and Steps Rebuild (front and side porches)  Rafter end repairs  Exterior doors, shutters, and windows rehabilitation  Reinforcing below heater in dining room  Exterior siding repair and repainting  Insulation The Chalet of the Golden Fleece was built in 1937, and is listed on the Wisconsin State Register of Historic Places, the National Register of Historic Places, and designated as a local historic landmark, as an outstanding example of an authentic Swiss chalet. As such, the work on this building must be done in compliance with The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards. The above work list is based upon a 2014 Historic Conditions Report completed for the Village, which is available upon request. Copies of the Chalet’s 1933 blueprints are available for viewing at the Village Clerk’s Office. Although the original wood type of the porch is unknown, the Wisconsin Historic Preservation Architect has indicated that pine lumber, properly pre-treated (preferably with linseed oil) and painted in the existing brown color would be an acceptable substitute material for the porch. Cost Estimate Timing and Process: Although there is no formal deadline, the Village and the Friends of the Chalet desire to receive cost estimates from contractors by July 6th. The submission of a cost estimate by an individual or firm does not create an obligation on the part of the Village of New Glarus to hire any particular individual or firm. It is likely that the Village will conduct a separate bid process for the actual repair work, once funding decisions have been made. If an individual or firm were interested in donating labor for the project, the Village would provide a letter for tax purposes. Cost estimates may be delivered at the Village Administrator’s Office, 319 2nd Street, New Glarus, WI, 53574 or emailed to bgadow@newglarusvillage.com. To view the interior of the Chalet museum, please contact Bryan Gadow, Village Administrator, at 608-527-5971 to schedule a time. (June 27, 30, July 3, 7, 2018) WNAXLP
