Brief Facility Description: The City of Monroe operates a wastewater treatment facility providing treatment for a combination of domestic wastewater from the community of Monroe and receives significant industrial and commercial wastewater from industries noted in the table above. The facility is an advanced activated sludge treatment plant consisting of a headworks, grit removal, primary clarification, diversion/equalization tank with odor control with ferric chloride and a biofilter, activated sludge and biological phosphorus removal, final clarification, effluent sand filtration, chlorine disinfection, and dechlorination. Post aeration is accomplished via a cascade aerator. Sludge is thickened with dissolved air flotation (DAF), anaerobically digested, dewatered with a centrifuge, and stored as a cake in a storage building and land spread on DNR approved sites. The facility is designed to treat an annual average daily flow of 3.7 MGD.
