Notice of Pending Application for Proposed Riprap

Dan Reeson, N8161 Reeson Ln, Blanchardville, WI 53516 has applied to the Department of Natural Resources for a permit to install riprap and habitat structures on the banks of Sawmill Creek. The project is located in the SE1/4 of the NE1/4 of Section 20, Township 04 North, Range 06 East, Town of York, Green County. The project is streambank protection on Sawmill Creek. The project entails vegatationr emoval, sloping the bank, terracing, and placing riprap with a size of a D50=6 inches along the bank. Deflectors will be used to create habitat and add sinuosity to the creek. A backhoe will be used to remove the vegetation, excavate the streambank, and to place the riprap and deflectors. The excavated materials will be placed on the hillside in the corn field outside the floodplain. The area will be seeded with a permanent native seeding with a 10 foot buffer beyond the top of the bank remaining permanent. We anticipate construction to start October 25th after corn is harvested. The Department will review the proposal provided by the applicant and any information from public comments and a public informational hearing, if requested. The Department will determine whether the proposal complies with ss. 1.11 and 30.12(3m), Stats., and ch. NR 150, Wis. Adm. Code, and ensure that the required mitigation meets the standards in s. 281.36(3r), Stats. if the project impacts wetlands. The Department has made a tentative determination that it will issue the permit or contract for the proposed activity.
