Notice of Pending Application for Streambank Stabilization

Jeff Wideman, N890 Twin Grove Rd, Monroe, WI 53566 has applied to the Department of Natural Resources for a permit to install riprap on the banks of Dougherty Creek. The project is located in the SW1/4 of the NE1/4 of Section 19, Township 03 North, Range 06 East, Town of Adams, Green County. The project consists of streambank stabilization by using stream barbs and improving habitat by installing root wads. The stream barbs will have 4:1 slopes, with the remaining bank above the stream barbs having a 3:1 slope. All exposed soil and disturbed areas will be seeded. After completion of the work the sites will be seeded and mulched. The stream barbs will be completed by first, sloping the banks to a 3:1 slope, and then excavating the streambed to a depth of 1 foot below the existing bottom and then placing the rock. The bank above the stream barbs will be sloped to a 3:1 slope. After that the site shall be seeded. The equipment used shall be a track-hoe excavator, dump trucks and a small dozer. The dredged materials will be hauled away by the contractor, as there is no place on site to spread the spoil. This project will require the removal of undesirable woody species on the top of the banks, if there are desirable woody species found they will be left in place. In some places there will be a need to remove some woody debris from stream to facilitate the installation the stream barbs, no more debris will be removed than is necessary to facilitate the installation of the stream barbs. The areas where the trees were removed from the top of the banks will be seeded. This project encompasses 3760 lineal feet of stabilization by installing 81 stream barbs, which will help to reduce the bank erosion that is currently taking place. The Department will review the proposal provided by the applicant and any information from public comments and a public informational hearing, if requested. The Department will determine whether the proposal complies with ss. 1.11 and 30.12(3m), Stats., and ch. NR 150, Wis. Adm.
