Resolution Granting the Designation of Parking Stalls for the Eugene Hotel Visitors Administrator Rindy clarified that rented stalls are renewed annually and may not be renewed if issues arise. Chief Kelley provided background on the history and procedures related to public parking lots, while DPW Al Gerber discussed the logistics and challenges of snow plowing in those areas. Alders raised concerns about allowing overnight parking in front of businesses, cautioning that approving the use of the eight stalls on the Square could set a precedent and “open a can of worms,” while also recognizing the benefit of relocating these stalls to a nearby parking lot to free up space on the Square. The current ordinance allows the Police Chief to issue stall permits, and any changes to that authority would need to be referred back to the appropriate committees. Jordan from Main Street spoke in favor of allowing Eugene Hotel to use the lot, highlighting the importance of parking availability in the southwest corner of the Square and emphasizing that, as Monroe grows into a destination city, the need for hotel accommodations will continue to increase. A motion was made by Sheaffer, seconded by Miller, to approve the resolution.
