YMCA to unveil pool water filtering system during open house

MONROE - The Green County Family YMCA installed a new pool filter system that reduces the need for chlorine. A grand re-opening of the Y's Aquatic Center will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, along with a community open house.

The water still contains chlorine, but it's about 80 percent less than it was. The water is treated through a UV light and is pumped into the pools.

The Y will launch a capital campaign to pay for this project, Fueling Our Future. This campaign is matched by support from Colony Brands. John Baumann, president and CEO of Colony Brands Inc., issued a challenge for the Y to pay off any loans, along with implementing other facility improvements. If the Green County YMCA raises $200,000 by April 30, Colony Brands will give the Y a $400,000 matching grant.
