FREEPORT - While it's true that breast cancer is the second largest cancer killer of U.S. women, there are also plenty of hopeful statistics surrounding this disease. For instance, the breast cancer death rate is on the decline, and today, 2.5 million breast cancer survivors are living in the U.S.

Monroe Clinic will host "An Evening for Women's Wellness" to offer area women information and tools that may one day save their lives. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, and will feature a keynote presentation on "Breast Health and the Importance of Screening" by Monroe Clinic OB/GYN Dr. Patrick Bruno at 6 p.m.

"Statistics tell us that breast cancer will strike one in eight women, but a diagnosis in not the same as a death sentence. Women need to know about the powerful tools they have on their side to help them prevent, limit and survive breast cancer, so they can go on to enjoy a long, healthy life," Bruno said.

In addition, "An Evening for Women's Wellness" will offer a variety of exhibits and expert information on massage, acupuncture, nutrition, breast cancer screening and other women's health information. Staff from the Stephenson County Health Department will also be on hand with a "Women's Wellness" display. Refreshments will be served.

This free event will take place at the Freeport Public Library, 100 E. Douglas St., Freeport.

Refreshments will be served. Register for this presentation by calling (877) 865-1462 or visit monroeclinic.org and click on "Classes and Events."
