BARABOO - The Wisconsin Holstein Association awarded nearly $14,000 in scholarships in 2017 to 15 youth, who will receive their scholarships at the 2018 Wisconsin Junior Holstein Convention in Stevens Point.
Scholarships were awarded to members studying agriculture or related fields at a two- or four-year university.
Hannah Nelson of Ellsworth will receive the $1,000 John Klossner Memorial Scholarship, which honors John Klossner, an active member of the Green County Junior Holstein Association and the Wisconsin Junior Holstein Junior Activities Committee. The scholarship was established by John's parents, Richard and Roxanne Klossner, and is given to a student furthering his or her education at a four-year university. Nelson, 17, is the daughter of Marc Nelson and Tracy Mitchell. She is a senior at Ellsworth High School with plans to study agricultural business and marketing and dairy science at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
Nine additional Wisconsin Holstein Junior members will receive four-year or two-year scholarships, including Amber Dammen of Argyle.
All Wisconsin Holstein members who plan to attend a two- or four-year college can apply for a scholarship in 2018; members may be awarded up to $1,000 in scholarship funds.
