BRODHEAD — Brodhead is planning its 8th Annual Wildflower Art Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 11 at Veterans Park on Wisconsin 11 next to the depot museum.

The event is part of the Brodhead Chamber’s annual Covered Bridge Days.

The event is a juried fine art show featuring artists displaying and selling their work. Media of all kinds, including painting, wood, glass, ceramics, fiber, jewelry, photography, graphics and garden art will be represented. There will be live music all day, including a stage performance at 1 p.m. on the band stand by “Modern-day Troubadour” Paul Imholte of Minnesota, who will also be strolling the grounds before and after his stage show. Homemade ice cream will be available in the park.

Several of the fine artists in this show have been long-time exhibitors at many art shows and several also have their work displayed in art galleries.

More information, including a list of exhibiting artists can be found on the Brodhead Chamber website, brodheadchamber.org. Look for the Covered Bridge Days page, click on the “View Event” button on the left side of the page and then “Exhibiting Artists” on the right.

The Wildflower Festival will also feature a native plant tour in Putnam Park from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday called “Expect the Unexpected,” which is educational for all ages and will highlight the native plantings on the bank of the Mill Race as well as explain the importance of native landscapes. The tour will cross to the other side of the Mill Race and walk along the Pearl Island Trail, where participants can learn about the plants and animals there.

Covered Bridge Days, Brodhead’s largest festival, is going on all weekend with too many activities to list. Download the entire schedule with a map at www.brodheadchamber.org by going to the “View Event” button on the left side of the Covered Bridge Days page, then click on the blue button on the right side.

Continuing events include the ever-popular “Embrace the Race” pontoon boat rides on Brodhead’s historic Mill Race, historic wagon tours, vendors, tractor pulls, thresheree, saw mill demonstrations, horse show, car show, food and live music.

Beside the music in Veterans Park, there will be music on the Square from noon to 10 p.m., with Madison’s “Mannish Boys,” “Cherokee Rose,” and the grand finale, “The Jimmys,” from 7 to 10 p.m. Come to Brodhead and enjoy the fun.
