MONROE — In celebration of National Nurses Week, which runs May 6 through May 12, Western Governors University (WGU) has announced it will be awarding up to $100,000 in scholarships to current nurses in Wisconsin who are interested in furthering their education. The Nurse Appreciation Scholarships are open to new and returning students enrolling in any of the nonprofit, fully online university’s CCNE-accredited BSN or MSN degree programs. Applications can be submitted online at wgu.edu/nurseappreciation through June 30.
“The recent pandemic highlighted the critically important role nurses play as they dedicate endless hours to the health and wellbeing of others,” said Dr. Angie Besendorfer, Regional Vice President of Western Governors University. “We at WGU are incredibly proud of our nurses and are committed to helping them reach their highest potential by providing them with access to affordable, high-quality, career-focused degree programs in health care. By launching this scholarship, we hope current nurses who want to advance their careers will be encouraged to make the leap to further their education.”
Each Nurse Appreciation Scholarship is valued at up to $4,000 and will be applied at a rate of $1,000 per six-month term, renewable for up to four terms. Recipients will be selected based on academic records, financial need, readiness for online study and current competency, among other considerations.
WGU’s CCNE-accredited BSN and MSN programs are the perfect fit for the unpredictable and demanding schedules of nurses. In most cases, students complete courses on their schedule, with 24/7 online access to learning materials and the ability to take tests as soon as they master the material. This competency-based approach allows students who work consistently and utilize the knowledge and skills they already have to graduate early.
