Wedding: Hughes-Akins

Jessica L. Hughes and Martin G. Akins Jr. were united in marriage on June 2, 2012 at St. John's Church of Christ, Monroe, with Rev. Dr. W.T. "Mike" Heath officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Terry and Laura Hughes, Monroe. The groom is the son of Martin G. Akins Sr. and Jerri L. Akins, South Wayne.

The bride was given in marriage by her father.

The bride wore a contemporary ivory colored dress. The groom wore a black tuxedo.

Maid of Honor was Angie Meighan, cousin of the bride. Bridesmaids were Evelina Kelley, friend of the bride; Jerrica Stiner, friend of the bride; and Heather and Amanda Akins, sisters of the groom. The bridesmaids wore traditional claret-colored dresses.

Best man was Josh Mau, friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Ryan Hughes, brother of the bride; Lance Notter, friend of the groom; Willy Taft, friend of the groom; and Brian McCauley, friend of the groom. The groomsmen wore black tuxedos.

Ushers were Kyle Klopfenstein, cousin of the bride, and Colton Seffrood, cousin of the groom. Flower girls were Ashli and Aaliyah Landen, cousins of the bride. The ring bearer was Tristen Anglin, cousin of the bride. The miniature bride and groom was Sadie Coplien and Jordan Landen, cousins of the bride. Soloists were Katie Bush and Emily Treuthardt, friends of the bride, and accompanist was Deb Krauss Smith (piano), friend of the bride. The program attendants and guest book greeters were Michaela and Meshell Akins, sisters of the groom.

The wedding reception was held at Bridges Banquet Center, Darlington. A wedding trip was planned to Alaska.

The bride is a 2009 graduate of Monroe High School. She is currently a student at MATC in radiology and also a CNA at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe.

The groom is a 2007 graduate of Black Hawk High School, South Wayne. He is a general laborer for E & N Hughes Co., Monroe.

The couple resides in South Wayne.
