We Energies unites with food pantry

MONROE - The We Energies Foundation, through its grant award, is uniting with the Green Cares Food Pantry to combat food insecurity throughout Green County.

The We Energies Foundation, established in 1982, has created brighter futures for communities in Wisconsin and Michigan by investing more than $160 million in support of activities of nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations in communities that are served by We Energies. The Foundation is funded by stockholders of WEC Energy Group, the parent company of We Energies.

Green Cares Food Pantry, located just outside of Monticello, is the largest food pantry in Green County, serving low-income Green County households. During 2017, Green Cares served 3,173 households comprised of 9,611 individuals.

Green Cares' hours of operation are from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays, with expanded hours from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays; from 9 a.m. to noon Thursdays; and from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays. Anybody needing assistance should call 938-4238 to schedule a confidential appointment with a Green Cares volunteer.

Green Cares Food Pantry, a United Way of Green County beneficiary, is run entirely by volunteers. During 2017, over 5,200 hours were donated by 188 volunteers.
