Volunteer tax aides available to help

MONROE - Volunteer tax-aide counselors trained and certified by the Internal Revenue Service will provide one-on-one assistance helping older low to moderate income individuals complete their 2008 tax returns. This includes tax forms 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, Schedules A, B, C-EZ and D and the Wisconsin tax forms 1, 1A, WI-Z and the Homestead Tax Credit Claim. Counselors can also determine whether or not individuals have a filing requirements or are eligible for Earned Income Credit, Recovery Rebate Credit or any other credits that may be applicable.

People using this service should bring copies of their 2007 tax returns as well as their W-2s, 1099 forms, Social Security earnings form and other relevant materials for 2008. A copy of the 2007 and 2008 property tax statements and/or rent certificates for 2008 are also needed.

In Green County, trained AARP volunteers are available to help with tax form completion. All forms are filed electronically. This service is free.Home visits are available for persons unable to come to a tax preparation center.

• Behring Senior Center of Monroe: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Wednesday, beginning Feb. 4 through April 15

• Sugar River Bank of Brodhead, 2006 1st Center Ave., Brodhead: 9 a.m. to noon every Monday, beginning Feb. 2 through April 13

• Albany Village Hall, 206 N. Water St., Albany: 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, Feb. 6 and Feb. 27, March 20 and April 3

• Sugar River Bank of New Glarus, 1101 Wis. 69 south, New Glarus: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fridays, Feb. 20 and March 27
