MONROE — Main Street Monroe is hosting it’s annual Trunk-or-Treat on the Square for Halloween.
From 2-4 p.m. Oct. 31, about 40 vehicles will be lined up on 3/4 of the of the inner circle surrounding the Courthouse, according to Main Street Monroe director Jordan Nordby. The north, west and south sides of the Square will be blocked off for the event.
“This event is free,” Nordby said. “It’s safe and secure for families; it will be closed off for parking; the vehicles will all be decorated and there will be a contest for best decorated trunk.”
The event is sponsored by Monroe’s Alphorn Ford, and Nordby thanked those from JoAnne’s Dress Shop and House to Home Designs for their decade-plus help of organizing the event.
Trunks distributing treats and baggies for local children include various businesses, local organizations and community groups, churches, plus the Monroe Police Department and Monroe EMS.
“The kids always seem to like to see the cruisers and emergency vehicles,” Nordby said.
Some trunks may even be held by local residents that prefer to distribute candy on the square instead from their home.
One change from other years is that there will not be a children’s parade, which usually loops the square before the Trunk or Treat event begins.
Nov. 4 Wine Walk kicks off downtown holiday events
After being canceled in 2020, Main Street’s First Thursday Wine Walk returns in November. The event, sponsored by Hawk’s Mill Winery and the Bank of New Glarus, will be held Thursday, Nov. 4 from 5-9 p.m.
It has been planned for the beginning of November to capitalize on the start of the holidays and fall season. Tickets are required to attend. Main Street Monroe’s executive director, Jordan Nordby, notes that the last four wine walks have all sold out and encouraged everyone interested to buy tickets now.
Tickets may be purchased by searching for the event – Downtown Monroe November Wine Walk – at Eventbrite.com. Tickets may also be purchased by calling 608.328.4023. Anyone with questions is also encouraged to call.
Most participating stores will also be having night-of-only specials, which makes it a great way for people to jumpstart shopping for Christmas, adds Nordby. One store will even be bringing in a particular brand representative for a pop-up section for the event. Participating businesses include locally owned women’s clothing boutiques, home good stores, specialty gift businesses, and new businesses including Sunrise Donut Café, which opened in September.
