Teachers' sorority gives grant to Monroe chapter

WISCONSIN DELLS - The Monroe chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority was one of the local chapters and sustaining members that attended the Wisconsin State Alpha Delta Kappa State Executive Board meeting and convention on May 2 and 3 at the Wintergreen Resort.

Alpha Delta Kappa is a teachers' sorority that honors teachers of excellence. The members attending from the Monroe Omicron chapter were: Linda Garrow, Omicron president; Ruth Tschanz, state president-elect and Omicron Alpha Delta Kappa Month chair; Marlea Steiner, state Altruistic chair and Omicron recording secretary; Melva Tschanz, state and Omicron Fraternity Education chair; Alice Kranig, Omicron historian and scholarship committee; Eleanor Stalder, Omicron scholarship committee; and Marilyn Kubly-Schmid, Omicron scholarship committee.

The general session included business items, awards/honorees and a guest speaker, Linda Chambers, who is an International Executive Board member. The Hunziker Scholarship, a fine arts scholarship, was presented, along with a host grant given to a charitable organization. Omicron Chapter was one of the winners of the host grant, receiving $100 towards the Race to Read program for fourth- and fifth-graders in the Monroe school district.

Marilyn Kubly-Schmid was honored with the silver sister award for 25 years of membership. She was honored by State President Janice L. Zwettler of Madison.

Officers elected and installed to the new state board for 2014-16 are: Ruth Tschanz, state president; Marlea Steiner, state recording secretary; and Alice Kranig, State Historian.
