Society's general meeting is Nov. 1

DARLINGTON - The fall general meeting of the Lafayette County Historical Society is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the museum, 525 Main St., Darlington. Author Carol March McLernon will talk about her new book "Lead-Mining Towns in Southwest Wisconsin." McLernon attended Shullsburg High School and earned her teaching degree at Platteville State Teachers College. She completed her graduate work at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Lead and zinc were discovered in Southwest Wisconsin in the early 1800s attracting miners, farmers and merchants to the area. After the meeting, books will be available at the Lafayette County Historical Society museum. The public is invited to attend.
