MONROE - Paul Schoenike will be the speaker at the Green County Genealogical Society meeting at 10 a.m. April 7 in the second-floor meeting room of the Monroe Public Library. Refreshments are available for 15 minutes before the meeting.
Schoenike will present "Railroads in the Landscape." The presentation will cover how railroads influenced the migration and lives of people, how they changed the landscape and the challenges of running and working for a railroad. A display of railroad memorabilia will be available to view.

The GCGS Research Center, located in lower level of the Monroe Public Library, is available to the public for research. Research Center hours are: from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and third Saturday and from 1to 3 p.m. the first Saturday after the meeting. Main holdings are on Green County, but both Rock and Lafayette counties are well represented as well as several other counties, states, countries and ethnic groups. A large clipping collection of births, marriages and obituaries is available. Volunteers are on staff to help with research.
