FREEPORT- The Highland Community College Big Band and the Royal Scots will take the stage Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6 and 7. Curtain for both performances is 7:30 p.m.

The music and the instrumentation of the Highland Big Band, under the direction of Bill Petersen, will follow the traditions of Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Stan Kenton jazz ensembles.
The Big Band consists of soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones; trombones; trumpets; clarinet; piano; vibraphone; bass guitar; bass; conga drums; and a drum set. This band is a true melting pot of the community with a tremendous range of backgrounds and ages.
The Royal Scots, under the direction of Allen Redford, is a mixed ensemble vocal group of Highland Community College students.
These vocalists specialize in jazz, American Song classics and acappella singing.
