MADISON - Jason Roth, of the Juda FFA Chapter, was named the 2014 winner of the State FFA Agricultural Education Proficiency Award.

The award recognizes students who best demonstrate an understanding of agricultural education and the skills needed for future success in the career field.

Roth is involved with his chapter's Food for America program, helps to teach summer school classes, is the coach for the Middle School FFA Quiz Bowl teams and has assisted in hosting a poverty dinner. As he advocates, he continues to learn by taking agricultural classes.

There were 12 state finalists in this award area that received cash awards made possible by state-level sponsorships from the Cooperative Network, The Country Today and the Clarence A. and Caroline L. Strohshein Endowment.

Roth will find out this summer if he is selected as one of four national finalists. If selected, Roth will compete at the National FFA convention in Louisville, Ky. in October. Each of the four finalists will receive a plaque and scholarship money from the national sponsorship by The James F. Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation and Tulsa Welding School.
