PORTAGE - The State 4-H Dairy Bowl contest was held on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Portage High School. Forty-five teams participated in this event from all over the state. Dairy Bowl is a quiz competition where all the questions are about dairy industry topics, and students use a buzzer in order to answer the questions. Teams compete in a double elimination format by giving oral answers to questions posed by a moderator. Each match has both an individual and toss-up question round. Competition encourages a 4-H member to develop a more complete knowledge of dairy animals and related subjects.

Green County 4-H sent two teams for the event, and each team went through three rounds of competition before being eliminated in the contest. The junior team included: John Klossner, New Glarus 4-H; Jake Hoesly, Clarence Bridge Pioneers 4-H; Joel Dieckhoff, Juda Jolly Juniors 4-H; Bryan Cramer, Spring Grove Honest Workers 4-H; and alternate, Ryan Smith, Washington Center 4-H. The Mixed Team included: Nicole Smith, Washington Center 4-H; Alyssa Cramer, Spring Grove Honest Workers 4-H; Kelsey Cramer, Spring Grove Honest Workers 4-H; and Danielle Dieckhoff, Juda Jolly Juniors 4-H. Teams were coached by Jane Smith, Trish Hoesly and Nikki Cramer.

This event was organized and facilitated by Ted Halbach, Youth Dairy Specialist and partially funded by the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation.
