Parks and Rec offering fall programs

MONROE - The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department has openings in its fall programs. To sign up, stop in at the Parks and Recreation office, temporarily located at the Streets and Sanitation office, 1224 10th Ave. West, or sign up online at www.cityofmonroe.org.

NFL Night Flag Football will have the first practice Sept. 5 at Recreation Park. Second and third grade league practice will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., fourth and fifth grade league from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and sixth through eighth grade league from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Additional practices will be scheduled by coaches each week. Games will be played at the Monroe High School football field and Twining Park. Game schedules will be handed out at the first practices. Games will be played Tuesday nights from Sept. 12 through Oct. 10. The cost is $50 for residents and $60 for non-residents and includes a jersey. Coaches are needed for the league; prospective coaches can contact Matt Skibba at 329-2466, email him at mskibba@cityofmonroe.org, or indicate on the form. The deadline to register is Friday in order to get a jersey.

Football with the Cheesemakers is a one-day program from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the high school practice field. The rain site is the MHS gym. Participants will meet and complete drills with the MHS football Cheesemakers. Everyone will receive a Campion's Champions T-shirt sponsored by Colony Brands. The program is open to anyone in 5k through eighth grade. The cost is $10.

Fall Volleyball for third- through sixth-graders will be at 2:30 to 4 p.m. on early release Mondays from Sept. 11 through Oct. 9. The cost is $30 for residents and $40 for non-residents and includes a T-shirt. Practices and games will be in Monroe High School. Games will be played on Oct. 2 and 9, and spectators are welcome. The games will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. this year. The brochure for the program lists outdated information that changed due to water damage at the middle school gym.

Volleyball with the Cheesemakers is a one-day program from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Monday at the MHS gym. The Cheesemakers volleyball team will be there to work on volleyball skills and drills. Everyone will receive a Campion's Champions T-shirt sponsored by Brennan's Country Market. The program is open to anyone in third through eighth grade. The cost is $10.
