MONROE — The following is a press release from the Monroe Police Department with information regarding parking and other logistical changes for the Saturday, Aug. 21 Concert on the Square in downtown Monroe:
On Saturday, August 21, 2021, there will be a Concert on the Square in Monroe, which will be an afternoon and evening event, rather than the normal evening only event. This event change will also bring some logistical changes that the community should be aware of.
The event will be taking place on the North side of the Downtown Square, and not the normal West side. The normal Farmer’s Market will take place on Saturday morning, so the inside lane of the West Side of the Square, the 1000 block of 16th Avenue, and the inside lane of the North Side of the Square, the 1600 block of 10th Street, will close at 6 a.m. The west side lane will re-open for parking after the market closes about 1 p.m., the north side will remain closed in conjunction with the later concert event.
In conjunction with the concert, the outside lane of the North Side of the Square, the 1600 block of 10th Street, will close at 11 a.m. All vehicles will need to be removed immediately after that time, in order for preparations for the concert event to take place. The concert is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., and the entire block will remain closed until about 10 p.m.
Normal sidewalk cafes in the downtown can remain open. In the closed block, no carry in alcohol will be allowed, but persons can buy and possess open plastic containers from vendors in that block.
Persons attending the event can look for parking on the street in surrounding blocks in the downtown, and in nearby parking lots: Spring Square Lot, Former Parking Ramp Lot, the Old Armory Lot, and the lot behind the Stop N Go store.
