Monticello Clean Sweep event August 6

MONTICELLO — The Green County Land and Water Conservation Department is hosting a Clean Sweep event. Clean Sweep is program that helps dispose of agricultural and household hazardous chemicals. This event is taking place at the Monticello Recycling Center, 406 North Main Street, Monticello, and will run from noon to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6. 

For agricultural and household products, you can dispose up to one hundred pounds for free. A testing fee may be charged for unknown chemicals if the amount is greater than five gallons or fifty pounds. Participants will need to sign in when bringing in products, no preregistering is needed. Proof of Green County residency is required. All items should be properly identified. Businesses may dispose of hazardous materials for a fee though Veolia Environmental Services. We reserve the right to reject any item that does not meet the intent of the program. Materials will only be accepted by authorized personnel.  

Some examples of accepted items are: home products, insecticides, old fertilizer, weed and feed products, mercury, oil based, marine, tractor, auto or lead paint, herbicides, fungicides, wood preservatives, low pressure gas cylinders, cadmium and lithium batteries, and small LP gas tanks. 

Some examples of items that are not accepted: explosives/firearms, radioactive material, high pressure compressed gas cylinders, freon 11 and 12, medical waste, latex paint, fluorescent tubes, waste motor oil, and antifreeze. 

 Prescription medications may also be dropped off.
