MONROE - The Monroe Morning Optimist club recently ran a local Tristar Basketball competition hosted by the Optimist International. The winners of that competition progress to a Southern Wisconsin District competition, held for the past 10 years.
The 2015 district competition had several student winners from Monroe. Taking first place in the boys division was Aaron Roidt, 10, and Heath Huschitt, 11. Taking first place in each of the girl divisions were Landrie Spidahl, 6; Sophie Conway, 7; Breanna Glasson, 10; Payton Johnson, 11; Sadie Conway; 12; and Grace Mathiason, 13. Alana Durtschi, 8, took second place.
Optimist International is a service organization in existence for almost 100 years, and spread throughout the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe and Russia.
Annually, it sponsors multiple sports events starting at the local club level up to a district-wide competition.
