MONROE - The Monroe City Band's annual winter concert, set for at 3:17 p.m. Dec. 7 in the sanctuary of United Methodist Church, 2227 4th St., will feature a work arranged for the band by area guitarist and composer/arranger Brian Koenig.

The free concert is open to the public, but donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted at the door for the Green County Food Pantry.

Featured on the program will be an arrangement of the traditional Ukrainian Bell Carol especially created for the Monroe City Band, in the spirit of Koenig's experiences as a metal-styled guitarist and classical oboist.

Koenig is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and music instructor originally from Monroe. Koenig attended University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where he received his Bachelor of Music with an emphasis on music theory and history, and a minor in arts management. In 2013, Koenig received his master's in music composition from the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

Other concert fare will include an overture based on "Angels We Have Heard On High" by Robert Longfield, a medley of seasonal "pop" tunes by Sammy Nestico, a musical lampoon of the Nutcracker Suite set by David Shaffer, the Italian carol "Gesu Bambino," "Variations On A Korean Folk Song" by John Barnes Chance, "Sorcerer's Apprentice" from Disney's Fantasia, Mannheim Steamroller's version of "Fum, Fum, Fum" and LeRoy Anderson's iconic "Sleigh Ride."

Following the concert, refreshments will be served in the church's Fellowship Hall.
